Macy & her husband, Matt
My name is Macy Martinson and I live in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. I was born in the small town of Newton, Iowa and lived there until the year, 2001. My parents still live in the same house in Newton where I grew up. I have one sibling, a sister who is two and a half years older than I am. She and her husband live in Iowa's state capitol, Des Moines, which is 30 miles west of Newton. Growing up, my dad traveled quite often for his job at Unisys, which meant that the three ladies of the house were on our own. Now, this sounds pretty easy, except for one small detail...my dad is the only one in our family who knows how to cook! So when dad came home from a few days of being out of town, we were happy to see him, but more importantly, happy to have his home cooked food! My mom's job was very flexible, as she worked for my aunt, in her art gallery. I had a perfect childhood, to put things a simply as I can. I could not have asked for better parents; I certainly got the best there is.
In 2001, I moved to Sioux Falls with my then, boyfriend, Matt. I enrolled in college at Colorado Technical University and graduated with a double major in Project Management and Marketing. I was content with my Bachelors degree until the winter of 2007 when I got the itch again and enrolled in the masters degree program at CTU. I am scheduled to graduate with a Masters in Project Management in the summer of 2009. To backtrack a little bit, Matt and I were married in a helicopter that was flying over the Las Vegas strip! It was a wild experience and one that I will remember forever.
Matt and I do not have any children. The closest thing we have to a child is our four year old beagle, Sage. We are content, just the three of us. When Matt and I are not working, we enjoy traveling. This past year we were able to travel with his family to Colombia, South America, which was a fabulous experience and one that I hope to do again. I also enjoy shopping and reading in my spare time.
I work for Hy-Vee Food Stores in Sioux Falls as their Manager of Store Operations. In this job, I am responsible for the management of about 1/3 of the store. There are three employees beneath the Store Director that each manages 1/3 of the store. I am primarily responsible for the productivity and profitability of the areas in which I manage. Our store just completed a long and difficult complete store remodel process this past year. We are excited to get back to our everyday jobs without the added chaos of the remodeling project interfering.
I am ecstatic about traveling to Australia! The day I found out about this opportunity I began writing my essay of intent that was needed to apply for the experience. I am thrilled to have been chosen for such a once in a lifetime experience and I am extremely grateful! I know that this experience will offer me new ways to look at business and life, and it can't start soon enough for me.
